Pursuit Lands Marquinn Morrison and His Pothead Passenger in Jail

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 10:19 a.m. on I-65 northbound near the 175-mile marker (that is at the SR 25/175 exit) a vehicle speeds by an unmarked state police car and fails to stop after the trooper activates his emergency lights and siren.

Marquinn-Morrison-27-of-Lafayette-saw-the-vehicle-was-a-police-car-and-slowed-and-pulled-in-behind-Trooper-Stinson.

Senior Trooper Tyler Stinson was on duty in his blue unmarked Indiana State Police car when a white 2018 Dodge Challenger who was coming up from behind Stinson was catching up at a high rate of speed.  Traffic was light in the area and Trooper Stinson was able to get a RADAR reading of 100 mph in a construction zone speed limit of 55 mph.  As the Challenger got up alongside of Trooper Stinson, the driver, later identified as Marquinn Morrison, 27 of Lafayette, saw the vehicle was a police car and slowed and pulled in behind Trooper Stinson.  Trooper Stinson slowed to almost a stop to let Morrison pull in front and to initiate a traffic stop.  Instead, Morrison took off and Trooper Stinson got in behind him with his emergency lights and siren activated.

The pursuit continued NB with the vehicle traveling at times reaching speeds of 130 mph in the construction zone where workers were working on the Wabash River Bridge at the 177 MM.  Trooper Stinson continued to follow the Challenger as the vehicle continued NB.  Traffic continued to be light on I-65 as Trooper Stinson continued to follow the Challenger.  Other troopers assisted in the pursuit as they continued NB traveling through White County and entering Jasper County.

Indiana-State-Police-pursuit-on-Oct.-6-2019-Tippecanoe-County-Sheriff

At the 201 MM Morrison lost control of the Challenger and ended up rear-ending a minivan which finally disabled the Challenger.  Morrison and his passenger, Tyjah Ealey, 22 of Chicago were taken into custody.  Morrison is being arrested for:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle
  • Driving While Suspended/Prior. 43 separate Suspensions on his driver’s license
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Reckless Driving in a Work Zone with Workers Present
  • Operating While Intoxicated

The passenger was charged with possession of Marijuana.

Both were transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.  Troopers assisting were Sergeant Sean Schaefer, Senior Trooper Jerad Foutch, Trooper Tyler Bentlage and deputies from the White County Sheriff’s Department.  Further charges could be pending.  No one in the minivan was injured and they were able to drive away.

Maine State Police say that shortly after 4 am on Friday, September 27th, State Police were called to a crash on the Little Madawaska Lake Road in Westmanland. Tr. Trooper after crash: Therapy, God helping recovery

Trooper Jason Phillips and his parents joined his colleagues at the Ohio Highway Patrol Wednesday to honor those who saved his life after a wrong-way driver crashed into his cruiser in June on Interstate 71 in Morrow County. Phillips, who is still recovering from major injuries, including brain trauma, said “home, therapy and God” are helping him recover.

The commanders at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy had already moved the furniture around to clear a space for Trooper Jason Phillips’ wheelchair.

Then word spread through the building: Better find a chair because Phillips had arrived and was determined to walk down that long academy hallway under his own power.

Wednesday was the day that Phillips and his parents would get a chance to show two important things. First, that no matter how much life has changed for them since a wrong-way driver nearly killed Phillips in a fiery on-duty crash on June 27, God is good and they remain hopeful in his recovery. Secondly, join in gratitude with hundreds of people gathered to honor all those who saved Phillips’ life after that crash on Interstate 71 in Morrow County.

Trooper/Motorist Sustain Injuries in Morrow County Crash

COLUMBUS – An Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper and another motorist were injured this morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 71 near Mount Gilead.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., a trooper was dispatched to locate a possible impaired driver reported to be in the area of milepost 155 on Interstate 71. The trooper was struck head-on by another vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes. As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire.

A Good Samaritan stopped to provide assistance after the crash and was also injured. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was transported to a hospital in Mansfield. The trooper and Good Samaritan were flown to hospitals in Columbus.

MORROW COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — For the first time, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Phillips spoke publicly about the aftermath of the crash which nearly claimed his life.

Investigators said that the wrong-way driver, later identified as Michael Marchak Jr., crashed into Phillips cruiser at a high rate of speed.

  • two counts of aggravated vehicular assault,
  • receiving stolen property,
  • operating a vehicle impaired
  • and driving under suspension.

Marchak indicted in Morrow County on vehicular assault, stolen property, driving while impaired, suspended

FROM MANSFIELD NEWS-JOURNAL: Marchak was indicted Aug. 22, 2019, in Morrow County on two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, felonies of the second degree; one count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; operating a  vehicle impaired, a first degree misdemeanor; and driving under suspension, also a first-degree misdemeanor, according to court records.

Morrow County Common Pleas Judge Robert C. Hickson Jr. set a $50,000 cash bond for Marchak, who was dressed in a green-and-white striped jail suit. Marchak is not allowed to post 10 percent of the bond, Morrow County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Smith.

Smith said Marchak has a history of not showing up for court and an extensive arrest record dating back to 2002 and also has convictions in Florida. Court officials said at Friday’s arraignment that Marchak was driving a stolen vehicle when he hit the trooper’s cruiser in June.

Marchak was taken to the Richland County Jail on Thursday on an unrelated warrant out of Richland County when he appeared for a hearing on a fifth-degree felony-drug possession charge in Delaware County Common Pleas Court, his attorney William Leber told media following the court proceeding. Leber said Marchak is awaiting sentencing on that case.

Marchak tested positive for methamphetamine after the I-71 crash, a spokesman for the Ohio Highway Patrol said in July.

Leber said Marchak has prior charges which involved drugs and alcohol.

“Michael needs to get some rehabilitation of mental health, drug and alcohol and physical rehabilitation,” Leber said.

Hickson ordered complete drug and alcohol screenings for Marchak, stating he was concerned for public safety. MORE

DWI REPEAT OFFENDER DRIVER

ANDRAE MARQUIS BRISCOE, 36, (DOB 04/16/1983) of 21572 Gordon Court, Lexington Park, Md., arrested for DWI on March 9, 2020, by Maryland State Police TFC A. Piscopo-Bann. Briscoe was stopped by the Trooper as he operated a 2004 Chevy at the intersection of Bolden Court and Gordon Court near his home – which he would have arrived if he had called an Uber – on March 8, 2020, at 11:14 pm.  Bail at the Jail was set at $10,000 which was posted and Briscoe was released. Briscoe decided to take a pass on a free public defender however court records do not reflect if he has hired himself a mouthpiece to represent him in St. Mary’s District Court on April 15, 2020.

Andrae (aka Andre) Briscoe entered a guilty plea to hit and run in St. Mary’s District Court on Feb. 20, 2014. On Thursday, November 28, 2013, Deputy B. Foor of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Pegg Road and Midway Drive for a reported single motor vehicle accident into a guardrail. Upon arrival, the vehicle was gone from the scene, however, the front Maryland license plate had been left behind during the crash. A check of the license plate revealed the vehicle was a 1999 GMC Yukon registered to Andrae Marquis Briscoe, 30, of Lexington Park. Deputy Foor located the vehicle at Briscoe’s residence with significant damage. Further investigation revealed Briscoe attempted to report the vehicle stolen and was placed under arrest for False Statement to Police Officer by Deputy Foor.

Andrae Marquis Briscoe entered a guilty plea to DWI in a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz on Feb. 23, 2010 in St. Mary’s District Court. THE DEAL: Briscoe was given a verdict of Probation Before Judgement with no fine and no time.

Andrae Marquis Briscoe was charged by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Deputy R. Nielsen with fleeing from a police officer, speeding and DWI while driving a 2001 Mercury on Feb. 1, 2009. In St. Mary’s District Court on July 30, 2009, Fritz dropped all the charges.

Briscoe netted two days in jail after he was arrested for second-degree assault by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Deputy Patrick Handy, in a plea deal with Fritz on Aug. 7, 2002. On June 18, 2005, at approximately 0200 hours officers responded to the I-Hop for a reported fight and disorderly crowd. Responding police: DFC Michael Labanowski, Deputy Shaun Carberry, DFC Elizabeth Trossbach, Cpl Craig Tyer MSP, and other members, both on and off-duty of the Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police attempted to disperse a large disorderly crowd from the parking lot. As the crowd was moving a suspect refused to leave and began yelling and screaming profanities causing a crowd to gather. He was advised he was under arrest and was being placed under arrest when he began resisting. During the resisting arrest, he grabbed an officer’s gun belt and was subdued and placed on the ground. The suspect was later identified as Andrae Marquis Briscoe, 22 of Lexington Park. Briscoe was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Resisting arrest, and Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer. During the arrest of Briscoe another suspect began acting disorderly and refused to leave, he was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct, he was identified as Samuel Lee Payne, 18 of Lexington Park, Trooper 7 also arrived overhead and used their lights to aid the officers in dispersing the crowd.
